A potential target for the Nashville Predators' general manager position has reportedly moved on from his current position with the St. Louis Blues.

According to a report from TSN's Darren Dreger on March 27, Peter Chiarelli, the Blues' vice president of hockey operations has left the team to "pursue other opportunities." In a post on X, Dreger said that Chiarelli is "a candidate in Nashville's interview process."

Kevin Maxwell, the Blues' director of pro scouting, has also left the team. He is likely to join the New York Rangers in some capacity according to Dreger.

The @StLouisBlues front office is changing with Kevin Maxwell and Peter Chiarelli leaving the club to pursue other opportunities. Chiarelli is a candidate in Nashville’s interview process and Maxwell is expected to return to the New York Rangers in a management role.

Chiarelli has been with the Blues since 2019, first as a senior advisor, then was elevated to vice president of hockey operations in 2021.

Chiarelli, 61, has been a front office executive since 2004, when he was elevated to assistant general manager with the Ottawa Senators. He then became general manager for the Boston Bruins in 2006, where he oversaw the Bruins' Stanley Cup championship in 2011.

The Bruins moved on from Chiarelli in 2015, after which he became general manager for the Edmonton Oilers. He was with the Oilers until he was fired in January 2019. He joined the Blues the following season.

The Predators are expected to interview both internal and external candidates for the general manager position, which is open due to the retirement of Barry Trotz. On Feb. 2, Trotz cited family and personal reasons for his retirement, adding that he will continue his GM duties until the team makes their new hire.

Predators majority owner Bill Haslam initially hired CAA to help with the job search, but CAA was forced to withdraw from the search after it was determined to be a conflict of interest.
