Potential Eagles' OC candidate will remain on Rams coaching staff

The Eagles' offensive coordinator search continues into its third week, and after some disappointment and uncertainty, an intriguing and familiar name will be staying with his current team. Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase for the head coaching job in a wide-ranging search. An offensive-minded (coached running backs, receivers, and quarterbacks in addition to one year as offensive coordinator at Iowa State) Scheelhaase played quarterback at the University of Illinois and has quickly developed a reputation around the NFL.

This season was his second in the NFL, and he's never had a head coaching job on any level. Scheelhaase was one of three finalists for the Browns job, along with Todd Monken and Jim Schwartz. On Wednesday, it was reported that Monken had been hired as Cleveland's 19th head coach in franchise history. Following the announcement, Jeremy Fowler reports that Scheelhaase will remain with the Rams and prepare for the 2027 cycle.

The Browns notified Rams assistant Nate Scheelhaase this AM they were going in a different direction.

Scheelhaase's rise through the ranks was rapid. In January 2018, he was hired as the running backs coach at Iowa State under head coach Matt Campbell. He transitioned to wide receivers coach in 2019, while also serving as running game coordinator and retaining his role as running backs coach. Before the 2023 season, Scheelhaase was promoted to offensive coordinator.

Scheelhaase joined the NFL ranks when he was hired as a pass game specialist by the Rams in February 2024.
