Jun. 14—SIOUX FALLS — Palace City Post 18 Junior Legion baseball posted a 2-2 record over the weekend, competing in the three-day Dakota Classic Tournament at Harmodon Park.
Post 18 closed out the tournament on Sunday afternoon in a placement game against Waverly Junior Legion (Neb.), earning a 7-6 victory in four innings. Waverly scored the first four runs of the contest in the opening inning, but from there, Palace City scored five unanswered runs and tacked on two more in the bottom of the third to seal the one-run win.
Post 18 outhit Waverly 5-4, as Waverly committed six defensive errors for the game.
Blake Rehorst came in to relieve Madden Graves on the bump in the first inning for Palace City, as Rehorst pitched 2 2/3 innings with two runs allowed on one hit and one strikeout. Owen Borgan closed out the game, pitching one inning with zero runs and one hit allowed plus two strikeouts.
Jordon Ebert led Post 18 at the plate offensively, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored, while Karsten Herges added one hit and two RBIs.
In the opening game of pool play on Friday, Palace City dispatched Ralston (Neb.) 13-5. After trailing 4-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, Post 18 scored six runs apiece in the fourth and fifth, respectively, to race past Ralston in five innings.
PCB outhit Ralston 9-4 for the game, as Borgan led the way with two hits, four RBIs and one run scored offensively for Palace City. Rehorst added two hits and an RBI, and Herges went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Ebert earned the start on the mound for Post 18, surrendering four runs on four hits with three strikeouts and six walks through 3 2/3 innings pitched. Jett Kranz came in relief for the final 1 1/3 innings, allowing one run on zero hits and one strikeout.
On Saturday to finish out pool play, Palace City dropped both contests. In Game 1, Post 18 lost 10-7 against Lincoln North Star (Neb.) before dropping the second game to Omaha Wow Factor 14U Midwest National (Neb.) 17-0 in three innings.
Palace City outhit Lincoln North Star 9-2 for the game, but had three errors, issued eight hit-by-pitches and four walks on defense, which LNS exploited to earn the win in five innings.
Noah Bennett led the PCB offense with two hits and three RBIs, while Rehorst added a 2-for-2 performance with one RBI and two runs scored and Graves had two hits.
Oliver Raml earned the start on the mound for Post 18, surrendering five runs (two earned) on one hit with one strikeout through three innings of work. Treston Zens and Kranz each came in relief for PCB.
The Post 18 Juniors (10-9) will host Harrisburg on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. doubleheader at Drake Field in Mitchell.
