So Im up in Portland right now on vacation, visiting some friends and watching our beloved Suns. I went to a baseball game at their lovely and historic PGE Park to see the Portland Beavers. I got talking to some folks and since PGE is being refurbished so that Portland can have a MLS team next year the Beavers will need a 'temporary' home for the 2011 year. However it seems Portland can't/won't get its crap together to build them a new facility and the move could be permanent.

There's quite a few articles on it if you Google "Portland Beavers move Tucson"

My question to Tucsonians is, do you think the cities residents would support a team this go around? The team is the AAA affiliate of the Padres & it seems Tucson would be a much more logical place to have a team for them than Portland, so I bet theyd like a permanent move. However it seems like Tucson is constantly losing the Minor League teams it has so Im not sure if it would work this go around. Its too bad TEP & Hi Corbett are in such weird locations, it would be nice if they were right along the Street Car line in their downtown somewhere.

Not a Tucsonan, but the city would likely support a team playing at Hi Corbett as it's really only a stone's throw from downtown and campus. TEP is just a disaster, it's too far away from the money ever to consistently draw crowds in the awful traffic down there.

The city's Golden Baseball League (whatever that is) team led that league in attendance in 2009 at Hi Corbett. Downtown would of course make the most sense, but the politicians down there are so out of whack that it will never happen especially in today's climate. In all honesty, most of the people I know and work with in Tucson say that botching the downtown stadium deal due to some politician's backroom manuevering ended up costing the city AAA and Spring Traning. Of course at this point nobody especially cares that much with the recession and all.
