We're going to be in a lot more trouble once the one at Tempe Marketplace opens this summer.

Chocolate cake...mmmm....

From their "fantastic" web site:

Welcome to Portillo's Hot Dogs, Inc., started in 1963 by Dick Portillo in a small trailer and soon will be operating 48 units. His dedication to serving "the best food" and "the best service" available will make it worth your visit. Requests for his "type" of food and "service" are received daily at the corporate office from many of the 50 states (including Alaska) and many foreign countries.

Everytime I read the "quotation" marks. I wonder "why" they are "there".

One of my employees thats from Chicago went there opening night. Waited 2 hours in line. He brought me an italian beef sub in the next day. It was pretty good but it would have been waaay better dipped. Never had Portillos before. It was similar to what we have in my hometown in southern Illinois.

Thrilled! Need an Italian Beef with peppers in the worst way. Hopefully this weekend. Any other reviews so far?

Been there twice so far since it opened including for lunch today. First day was over 2 hours from line to food. Today we were in a rush and had to go drive thru. Around 10 minutes from order to food and they probably helped 15-20 cards in front of me.

That doesn't sound bad at all. Is the food just as good as you remember it?

Oh yeah. The spices that they are use for their meat beat all other places that I have been to.

I could use a couple pointers. My sugarmama works up there location wise but we live in central Phx, like a 15 minute drive so can I ask her to pick some up on the way home or should we hit it up there?

We picked it up and took it home the other day--still good; if you get the Italian Beef, get the gravy on the side if you get it to go.

Of course, it IS much better eaten there; we just didn't have the time to do so. If you can, then eat it there.

Won't be long until they get their Tempe Marketplace location up and running.

Okay, so I have never been to a Portillo's yet, but my wife's co-worker went there (Tempe Marketplace) recently and they did not have any sauerkraut. They were not out...they do not stock any. Really? The server said "Gosh, we sure have had a lot of people asking for it." Uh, yeah - you are a "hot-dog" place...or at least known for having hot dogs...might want to have some sauerkraut on hand. Can anyone else confirm this to be the case? Just seems odd to me.

Doesn't surprise me. Have never had sauerkraut at portillos. Not a standard "chicago dog" ingredient.

Been there a few times - good. Would never stand in a long line for it though.
