Port Washington Little League secured its first win of the Little League World Series Metro Region tournament on Saturday, Aug. 8, marking the team’s first-ever regional victory.
The team held Lincoln, R.I., to three runs in the 10-3 opening round victory.
Rhode Island went through four pitching changes in the six-inning game, but Port Washington already held a 6-0 advantage by the bottom of the third inning. New York held its swing throughout most of the game, tallying eight walks.
Port Washington’s Brandon Kien and Jackson Gorynski led the team with two runs each. Kien had two hits, while Gomez, Gorynski and Carlo Cafferata had one hit each.

The dominant victory, which saw six different players drive in runs, marks the team’s fourth playoff game holding an opponent to less than three runs.
Cafferata and Drew Theoharis combined for five strikeouts, each allowing less than two hits.
Port Washington has continued to make their presence known this summer after winning its first state title in an 11-5 victory over Staten Island’s six-time state champions, Mid-Island, in the New York State tournament.
Port Washington will play the winner of Connecticut (Darien) and New Jersey (Bayonne Central) in Game 4 of the tournament on Monday, Aug. 10. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. and will be streamed via ESPN.
