Former multiple world champion Karl Geiger has been dropped from Germany's ski jumping squad for weekend World Cup events in the wake of poor results.

The German Ski Federation (DSV) said on Wednesday that Geiger would not jump on Saturday and Sunday at the home event in Klingenthal.

Geiger has only managed World Cup points in two competitions this season. Last weekend he failed to qualify for the second round in both events in Wisla, Poland, placing 56th and 54th, respectively.

Coach Stefan Horngacher said that Geiger would "work with coach Max Mechler on optimising his jumping technique" over the next days.

It is unclear when Geiger will return to the World Cup. The jumpers are in Engelberg, Switzerland next week for the final events before the December 29 start of the Four Hills Tour. The season highlight is the Winter Olympics in February in Italy.

Geiger is a former ski flying world champion and has 12 medals from world championships and Olympics. They include five golds in world championship team and mixed team events.
