As we pass the midway point of July, the hockey doldrums of summer have descended upon us as they do every year about this time. Almost three weeks have passed since free agency opened on July 1st, with most of the top available names on the market already inking new deals for next season.

For the Penguins, July 1st was a relatively quiet day as expected, save for the handful of depth signings brought in by Kyle Dubas. Of course, the lingering rumors surrounding the Penguins and Jason Robertson persist, but as of now, those simply remain rumors.

All in all, hockey news has slowed to just about a trickle for the Penguins and all around the league, so it seemed like a good time for Robbie and Snail to sit down and hit on some of the highlights that have popped up over the last few weeks, especially the 2026-27 NHL schedule release and the news surrounding the Penguins ECHL affiliation situation.

Robbie and Snail also touch on a few other topics in this episode as well, some related to hockey and the Penguins and some not so much.

One final note, Robbie and Snail need some input from readers with an upcoming episode that is in the planning stages. To pass some time as summer rolls along, we have to think up some topics to discuss to keep episodes coming until hockey returns.

One of those episodes will be remembering some lesser known or obscure former Penguins. If a name pops into your head, please drop it in the comments of this post so we make sure to include the player when we record this episode.
