JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – In chilly and windy conditions, Pitt-Johnstown’s Eli Ropietski shot an even 70, including an eagle on the par-five 11th hole, to climb into a three-way tie for 11th place after Friday’s second round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Region Tournament at the par-70 Sunnehanna Country Club.

The Mountain Cats remained tied for third at plus-21 entering Saturday’s final round.

Wheeling overtook Gannon for the top spot at 14-over. The Golden Knights are second at plus-16, while Pitt-Johnstown and Charleston are knotted in third place at plus-21, and Glenville State is fifth at plus-22 in the field of 20 teams and four individuals.

Gannon’s Rasmus Seppanen shot 2-over Friday to end the second round at minus-1 and hold on to the lead by one stroke over Wheeling’s Zak Collins and West Liberty’s Adam Gill (even).

After shooting three-over in Thursday’s opening round, Ropietski shot even par in Round 2 to sit in a tie for third with Gannon’s Mattia Parrini and Charleston’s Pau Sanchez at plus-3.

Pitt-Johnstown’s Griffin Hansberry (even, plus-5) and Lucas Smith (even, plus-5) are in a 14-way tie for 19th place at plus-5, and Mauricio Hernandez is tied with 10 other players for 44th place at plus-9 after firing a 3-over Friday.

David Razinskas (plus-6, plus-4) rounds out the Mountain Cats’ five golfers in a nine-way tie for 55th place at plus-10.

The top three teams and the top two individual golfers not with an advancing team will earn berths in the NCAA Division II championships May 18–22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.

The final round is set for 7:30 a.m. Saturday. Pitt-Johnstown will be in the final four groups starting at 12:40 p.m.
