The No. 5 Auburn Tigers will call upon reliable arms to lead the charge this weekend in Tuscaloosa.
Auburn head coach Butch Thompson will roll out his usual weekend starting pitcher rotation of Jake Marciano, Jackson Sanders, and Alex Petrovic for this weekend's key SEC series at No. 23 Alabama. The weekend rotation has combined for nine wins this season, with 131 strikeouts and 19 walks allowed over 99 1/3 innings.
Marciano was a star in his last outing, despite not receiving a decision. The left-hander struck out nine batters and walked two while allowing one run on two hits in Auburn's thrilling 4-3 win over Texas. Last Friday's start was the second-straight start that lasted seven innings for Marciano, and he has allowed one earned run on four hits in SEC play with 16 strikeouts and three walks.
Sanders hopes to have a luckier outing this time around after he was chased from last Saturday's start after 2 2/3 innings. In his season-low outing, Sanders allowed six runs on six hits, which included two home runs. Still, Sanders holds a 3.66 ERA over 32 innings of work with 45 strikeouts.
Petrovic allowed four runs on two hits in last Sunday's start vs Texas, and will look to get back into rhythm after lasting just 3 2/3 innings. In 30 1/3 innings, Petrovic is 4-1 with a 2.97 ERA and 35 strikeouts to just seven walks.
The No. 5 Tigers travel west to Tuscaloosa for another ranked SEC series with archrival No. 23 Alabama beginning Friday at 6 p.m. CT. Auburn bounced back from a series loss to No. 2 Texas on Tuesday with a run-rule win over South Alabama in Montgomery. Alabama is on a four-game winning streak dating back to last Friday's win over then-No. 14 Florida. The Crimson Tide ended the series with a sweep and followed with a midweek win over Austin Peay at Toyota Field in Madison.
Game one of the series between Auburn and Alabama begins at 6 p.m. CT on Friday, with game two set for Saturday at 7 p.m. CT and Sunday's finale scheduled for 1 p.m. CT. SEC Network+ will air games on Friday and Sunday, Saturday's game will air on SEC Network.
