Pitcher Red Sox Traded Away Looks Like Lock For All-Star Game On New Team originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Boston Red Sox had a very busy offseason, and one of their moves is starting to look like a miscalculation.
One of the moves the Red Sox made was sending Kyle Harrison to the Milwaukee Brewers as part of the deal that netted them Caleb Durbin, Andruw Monasterio and Anthony Seigler. Harrison was originally acquired by the Red Sox when they traded Rafael Devers. Harrison made just three appearances for the Red Sox, but started 12 games in Triple-A.
He had a 3.75 ERA in Triple-A and a 3.00 ERA in three big league outings. He was a work in progress, but on the Brewers, he looks like a true ace. Unfortunately, he is slotted in as Milwaukee's No. 2 starter thanks to Jacob Misiorowski.
Harrison is looking like a lock for the All-Star Game at this point. The National League has no shortage of star pitchers, but Harrison is among them. He is not on the outside looking in, but rather, he has established himself in the top tier of arms in the NL right now. He has a 1,57 ERA through 11 starts. He has 73 strikeouts to just 16 walks all season.
Harrison is 2/3 of an inning short of being a qualified pitcher, but he should have no trouble reaching that status by the All-Star Game. He has allowed just four runs in his last six starts.
If he were a qualified pitcher, he would have the second-best ERA in all of baseball, behind only Cristopher Sánchez. Harrison has established himself as an elite arm and is a huge reason why the Brewers are winning at a high clip.
The Red Sox likely do not regret trading Harrison, knowing they have Connelly Early and Payton Tolle. Harrison was never going to get the same chance to thrive in Boston as he does in Milwaukee.
