Add another notch to the Detroit Pistons' NBA record playoff winless streak.

The Pistons looked like they were on their way to an upset, before a 21-0 New York Knicks eruption in the fourth quarter turned an eight-point deficit into a 13-point lead with under five minutes remaining. That was enough to stun the Pistons in a Knicks 123-112 win at Madison Square Garden in Game 1 of the best-of-seven first-round playoff series.

The Pistons were 7½-point underdogs in Game 1, their first playoff appearance in six years following a 30-win improvement (sixth-most in NBA history).

Heck, 40 of 43 experts we found picked the Knicks to win the series.

Yet in Game 1, the 6-seed Pistons proved they belonged in the World's Most Famous Arena against the star-powered 3-seed Knicks. The Pistons led by as many as nine, 87-78, late in the third quarter.

But the Knicks turned a 98-90 deficit into a 111-98 lead, with the Pistons failing to score for nearly five minutes until a Malik Beasley 3-pointer at 4:35. They turned the ball over 21 times, a half-dozen times in the fourth to aid the Knicks' eruption.

The Pistons' NBA-record playoff losing streak is now at 15 games, the longest active streak in any of the four major American professional sports.

Here's how NBA folks reacted to the blitz by the Knicks and collapse by the Pistons, as Cam Payne came off the bench to help play hero along with Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart.

A 15-0 run in three minutes for the Knicks, who are now up 105-98.

The Pistons looked so good for three quarters, and then have had their inexperience in this situation catch up with them all at once here in the fourth.

Cam Payne has nine points during Knicks' 17-0 run over last 3 minutes. Jalen Brunson has the other six points. Brunson has hit 9 of his last 11 shots after 2 for 13 start.

Brunson has hunted Tobias Harris on approximately 300% of his touches since getting back on the floor.

What a turn around by the Knicks in the fourth quarter, a 21-0 run. Cam Payne, Brunson, Hart, KAT all playing well.

Mikal on bench for entire 4th.

every pistons stage has had a "they have to learn how to win" and enter game one into the pantheon.

Pistons went scoreless from the 9:15 mark to the 4:36 mark. Down 10 with 4:05 to play. Not over, but no momentum
