PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates put together a two-out rally against Marlins reliever Anthony Bender in the eighth inning for a 3-2 win at PNC Park on Saturday evening.
Scoring Plays
Bottom 1st, 1-0 PIT: Ryan O’Hearn drove in Spencer Horwitz with a base hit to right field off Lake Bachar to give the Pirates (36-35) the lead.
Top 3rd, 1-1: Liam Hicks smacked a 101.1 mph fastball from Bubba Chandler the other way to left field for an RBI single with two outs to tie the game.
Bottom 3rd, 2-1 PIT: The Pirates quickly reclaimed the lead when Bryan Reynolds doubled to center field off left-hander John King and Horwitz raced home from first base.
Top 6th, 2-2: The Marlins (35-36) had runners on first and second with two outs after Chandler hit Kyle Stowers with a pitch, which prompted a pitching change. The Pirates turned to Mason Montgomery, who surrendered an RBI single to Heriberto Hernández.
Bottom 8th, 3-2 PIT: After the first two batters of the inning struck out, the Pirates loaded the bases with two outs. Anthony Bender (1-1) hit Horwitz with a pitch to push across the go-ahead run.
Key Moments
Yohan Ramírez (4-2) allowed the first two batters he faced in the eighth inning to reach before striking out Kyle Stowers for the first out. He then fell behind Heriberto Hernandez 3-0 before coming back to strike him out. Ramírez then struck out Leo Jiménez for the final out to keep the tie intact.
Tyler Callihan delivered a two-out single and took off on Anthony Bender’s pitch, advancing to third base easily on Jake Mangum’s single to center. Jared Triolo walked to load the bases before Spencer Horwitz was hit by the pitch.
Gregory Soto had a runner on second with no outs in the ninth but was able to hold the Marlins scoreless for his 10th save of the season.
Player of the Game
Bubba Chandler delivered one of his better starts of the season and was charged with two runs on three hits in 5.2 innings. He only walked one batter and struck out six.

Bryan Reynolds extended his on-base streak to 20 games with his RBI double in the second inning.
