PITTSBURGH — Tyler Callihan belted two home runs for the Pittsburgh Pirates, who erased a five-run deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 9-8 and snap a four-game losing streak at PNC Park on Wednesday night.
Scoring Plays
Top 4th, 2-0 LAD: The Dodgers (43-25) struck for two runs in the fourth inning against Jared Jones. Max Muncy plated Freddie Freeman with a two-out double to right field and scored when Kyle Tucker ripped a liner up the middle past shortstop Jared Triolo for an RBI single.
Bottom 4th, 2-1 LAD: Tyler Callihan launched his first-career home run out of the stadium to right field off Shohei Ohatni. The blast traveled 424 feet.
Top 6th, 6-1 LAD: Ryan Ward extended the lead to five with a two-out grand slam to right field off Carmen Mlodzinski. It was the first-career home run for Ward, who ambushed a first-pitch slider.
Bottom 7th, 6-4 LAD: Brandon Lowe delivered a two-run double to knock Ohtani out of the game. After the Dodgers turned to Alex Vesia, the Pirates (35-33) tacked on another after a grounder off the bat of Bryan Reynolds trickled under the glove of Muncy at third base, allowing Lowe to score from second.
Bottom 8th, 9-6 PIT: Callihan came through for the Pirates again with a go-ahead three run home run to right field off Kyle Hurt (1-1), his second of the game. Later in the inning, Spencer Horwitz capped the five-run frame with a two-run shot off Jack Dreyer.
Top 9th, 9-8 PIT: Ohtani hit a two-run home run into the bullpens in center field off closer Gregory Soto to bring the Dodgers back within a run.
Key Moments
Nick Gonzales and Rafael Flores Jr., who entered the game in the top of the eighth for Endy Rodríguez, opened the eighth with back-to-back walks to spark a huge-five run inning. Tyler Callihan and Spencer Horwitz took care of the rest.

Before the big comeback, Bryan Reynolds robbed Shohei Ohtani of a home run with one of the best catches ever at PNC Park.
Player of the Game
Tyler Callihan reached base in all four trips to the plate and belted the first two home runs of his career. The Pirates right fielder drove in four runs and scored three.
Stat to Know
Shohei Ohtani had only allowed been charged with five earned runs in 61 innings this season before the allowing four runs (three earned) against the Pirates in 6.2 innings. The three earned runs and six hits were the most against Ohtani since the Rockies scored five runs and had nine hits against him last year on Aug. 20.

- The Pirates placed CF Oneil Cruz on the 10-day injured list with non-displaced fourth and fifth metacarpal fractures in his left hand (retro to June 8). OF Billy Cook was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.
- The Pirates placed C Henry Davis on the paternity list and recalled C/1B Rafael Flores Jr. from Indianapolis.
