The MLB trade deadline is still two months away, but that didn't stop the Pittsburgh Pirates from making a trade on June 1.

The Pirates announced on Monday night that they've traded right-handed relief pitcher Justin Lawrence to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for cash considerations.

The move doesn't come as a huge surprise, as Lawrence was DFA'ed a few days ago to clear a roster space for Jared Jones in his return from the injured list.

Lawrence, 31, struggled out of Pittsburgh's bullpen this season, going 0-2 with a 5.32 ERA, a 5.35 FIP, a 1.55 WHIP and -0.7 WAR in 22 innings.

He was unable to replicate his success with the Pirates last year, when he logged a career-best 0.51 ERA in 17 2/3 innings. He's also a significant reason why Pittsburgh's bullpen has struggled this season.

Lawrence has been up and down throughout his six-year career, going 13-14 with a 5.05 ERA in 233 2/3 innings. He'll try to turn things around with the Twins, who are third in the AL Central after beating the Chicago White Sox on Monday night.
