The Pittsburgh Pirates are having a much better season than many could've anticipated, especially considering Paul Skenes isn't having the Cy Young caliber season he had the previous two seasons.

But, with the 34-32 Pirates in contention for a postseason spot, this club clearly needs to find a way to further upgrade the roster by the August 3 trade deadline. Designated hitter and reliever could use help, and even the rotation would stand to benefit from an upgrade.

Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller proposed a trade idea for the Pirates at this year's deadline, and it's a massive steal that would acquire Detroit Tigers Cy Young ace Tarik Skubal for just two prospects, not even including the Pirates' top prospect overall.

Pirates trade idea lands Tarik Skubal in huge steal

"The Trade: Detroit Tigers send LHP Tarik Skubal to the Pittsburgh Pirates for OF Edward Florentino and LHP Hunter Barco," Miller writes.

This idea from Miller would be a massive steal for the Pirates. Adding Skubal to the rotation alongside Skenes would give Pittsburgh the best one-two punch in all of Major League Baseball.

That is the kind of thing that could carry a team deep into the postseason. And even though Skubal is a rental and will hit free agency after 2026, this package isn't that bad for the Pirates.

Being able to land the two-time Cy Young winner would be huge, especially since this idea would have the Pirates only giving up Florentino and Barco.

Those are two of the top prospects in the Pirates organization, but most importantly, it doesn't include Seth Hernandez, a right-handed pitching prospect who's one of the best pitching prospects in all of baseball.

Being able to land the best player on the trade market without having to give up Hernandez would be massive for the Pirates.

Miller's proposed package wouldn't be small, but considering they would keep Hernandez, parting with only Forentino and Barco would be a huge coup for the Pirates.
