The Pirates continued to revamp the bullpen at the buzzer of Monday’s trade deadline. They landed their fourth reliever in the last three days by acquiring Lake Bachar from the Marlins, a source confirmed to PBN.

Pittsburgh is sending relief pitcher Brandan Bidois, outfield prospect Brian Sanchez and infield prospect Hyun Seung Lee to Miami in the deal.

Bachar has totaled 38 appearances/four starts on the season and is 1-2 with a 3.84 ERA and a pair of saves. In 58.2 innings, the right-hander has been charged with 25 earned runs on 43 hits with 21 walks and 61 strikeouts. He’s posted a 1.09 WHIP and has held opponents to a .201 batting average.

Now in his third big-league season, Bachar was originally a fifth-round draft pick of the Padres in 2016. He joined the Marlins as a waiver claim towards the end of the 2024 season.

In 101 career appearances/five starts, the 31-year-old is 9-5 with a 3.88 ERA and five saves. He’s recorded 147 strikeouts in 133 innings.

Bachar will be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter and is under club control through the 2030 season.

Bidois became the first Australian-born player to play for the Pirates when he made his MLB debut this year. In 15 appearances, the right-hander went 0-0 with a 6.32 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 15.2 innings.

Sanchez was acquired from the Yankees at last year’s deadline, one of three prospects for David Bednar. In 83 games with High-A Greensboro this season, the 22-year-old slashed .254/.341/.431 with 17 doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 40 RBI and nine steals.

Lee, who signed with the Pirates out of South Korea in 2025, combined to hit .264/.363/.471 with seven doubles, four triples, seven home runs and 43 RBI in 50 games between the Florida Complex League and Low-A Bradenton.
