Brendan Haywood ($5.0, 2010)
future first-round pick

Washington gets
Shawn Marion ($16.4, 2009)
Marcus Banks ($3.9, 2011)

Reasons for Washington:

* Marion more complete than Jamison
* Marion signed one more year, may make it easier to retain Arenas (who has an opt-out this summer)
* Drop about $1 million in team salary for 2007-08
* Break up Haywood/Etan Thomas feud

Reasons for Phoenix:

* Jamison more content with secondary role, but can score when needed
* Haywood more useful than Banks, and contract shorter
* Clears salary for next summer, whether or not Jamison can be extended more affordably

I had been thinking along those same lines, I think its a good deal.

However, that team would have to score 115 points a game to win, because its rebounding and help defense would be terrible. But I think it could score 120 so thats OK

Throw in Andray Blatche and Eric P and I think I would do it.

Although I don't think Jamison is a really good fit.

PHX/Den including Camby is my #1, although with Melo and AI, it doesn't seem likely.

Mike Miller/Swift/Warrick for Marion + is very intriguing as well.

I would twist the Wizards-trade:

Marion, Banks for Butler, Daniels, Haywood

Marion is better than Butler but the difference isn't drastic, Daniels is a better backup PG than Banks and Haywood's basketball IQ may rise from zero in Phoenix.

Yes but Marion is the Suns' starting PF. Who are you going to put there instead if he's traded for Butler? Diaw?

Marion can't be traded for a pure SF.

And send Hill to the bench? That's not going to go over well.

Besides, D'Antoni would never give Haywood major minutes. If a trade gets made, it has to be consistent with the style he wants to play.

The key thing with Jamison is if he would agree to a reasonable extension... 3yrs/21M$ is what i think he is worth...

That way we would get to keep Jamison and Haywood longterm and clear money for the Atlanta Pick, the full MLE in 08 and get under the luxury tax.

At this point I'd take any trade for Marion that gave us a quality "D'Antoni 4". But I like this trade a lot better than I like the idea of Lamar Odom-- though less than I'd like a Marion/Banks for Kirilenko/Giricek trade.

Jamison is like a good version of Tim Thomas. And I still refuse to accept that Tim Thomas is worth the money he got. Watch him play on the Clippers. He's a nightmare. The only way I'd like TT is if the Suns had a team option in every single year of his contract.
