The Hundred 2026 got underway in style as defending champions Sunrisers Leeds Women (formerly Northern Superchargers) began their campaign with a commanding seven-wicket victory over MI London Women (formerly Oval Invincibles) at The Kia Oval, London on Tuesday.

After producing a disciplined bowling display to restrict MI London to 107/8, Sunrisers Leeds chased down the target comfortably with seven wickets and 31 balls to spare, thanks to a match-winning knock from Phoebe Litchfield, who was named Player of the Match for her unbeaten 43 off 26 balls.

MI London squander strong start after Deepti Sharma's brilliance​

MI London looked set for a much bigger total after openers Hayley Matthews and Danni Wyatt-Hodge gave the side a flying start. The pair powered the innings to 50 without loss in just 34 balls, while MI London were well placed at 68/1 after 50 balls.

However, Sunrisers Leeds fought back brilliantly through their bowlers. Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma triggered the collapse with figures of 2/20, applying the brakes in the middle phase. Captain Dani Gibson also struck twice at crucial moments as MI London lost momentum, slipping from a commanding position to finish on just 107/8 from their 100 balls.

Phoebe Litchfield anchors comfortable chase​

Chasing a modest target of 108, Sunrisers Leeds suffered a couple of early setbacks but never lost control of the chase. Australian batter Phoebe Litchfield played the defining innings, remaining composed while keeping the scoreboard moving. Her fluent 43 off 26 deliveries ensured the defending champions crossed the finish line with ease, sealing a seven-wicket victory and earning her the Player of the Match award.
