Phillies trade rumors for 32 home run slugger continue to heat up after injury news originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

It might sound weird, considering how deep the depth has been in the past, but right-handed hitting outfielders around Major League Baseball have been some of the most disappointing in the game in recent years.

There's a reason why the Philadelphia Phillies haven't been able to improve on that front, and while a lot of it is Dave Dombrowski's fault, it's also important to recognize that right-handed hitting outfielders just haven't played up to par over the past four-plus years.

With Major League Baseball's trade deadline approaching, there's definitely a hope that the Phillies are going to add a right-handed-hitting outfielder.

There's now an expectation that Adolis Garcia is going to miss the entire year, or perhaps most of it, so the Phillies definitely need to do something in that regard.

One name that's now been floated for Philadelphia is Seiya Suzuki of the Chicago Cubs. Suzuki has been one of the more above-average hitters, though he was once one of the worst defenders in the sport.

However, considering he hit 32 home runs last year, teams are going to be interested in him, and he's likely going to cost a lot, according to the latest from The Athletic.

“I thought Ken Rosenthal’s recent column about Seiya Suzuki was interesting, particularly given the Phillies are now in need of a right-handed-hitting outfielder. As Ken noted, such players will be extremely valuable at the deadline given how poorly that group has performed. But do the Phillies have the depth for such a trade? Would they want to utilize whatever depth they have for a rental? Would Suzuki, who has a no-trade clause, want to come to Philadelphia? There are a lot of unknowns,” Charlotte Varnes wrote.

The Phillies have to understand here that even if they believe Suzuki is attainable, he's probably going to go for much more than they thought.

That isn't to say that the Phillies don't have enough to trade for him, but they might also not want to overspend on a right fielder who is set to hit the free agency market at the end of 2027.
