Phillies trade idea replaces Alec Bohm with 31-HR slugger from Astros originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Philadelphia Phillies are off to a shaky start to the 2026 season, as their offense has been a major letdown through the first few weeks of the year.
The pitching staff looks strong, but the Phillies desperately need more offense, and there are a few key spots where the offensive production needs to be better. Bryson Stott at second base is one such spot, but the bigger issue is at third base with Alec Bohm.
Christopher Kline of Fansided.com proposed a trade idea that would replace Bohm with a new face in Houston Astros slugger Isaac Paredes. He has 31-homer upside and is one of the players likely to be available by the trade deadline as well.
Phillies trade idea lands Isaac Paredes as Alec Bohm replacement
"Houston should trade Paredes now, while he still has an extra year of cheap club control to boost his value," Kline writes. "... Enter the Phillies, who could use a facelift in the infield."
The Phillies need more offensive firepower in the infield, with both Stott and Bohm struggling. But, when it comes to finding a replacement for one or the other, adding a new third baseman in Paredes is the better solution than a new second baseman.
Paredes hit 31 homers with the Tampa Bay Rays back in 2023, and he's been an All-Star each of the last two seasons, spending time with the Rays, Chicago Cubs, and Astros.

With Houston in the middle of a brutal losing streak, and dealing with a litany of injuries, along with their prior Paredes trade talks this offseason, a deal for the Astros 27-year-old third baseman is very much in play for teams this season.
The Phillies should be all over such a trade. Bohm is hitting .155 with a solid 10 RBIs, but his .455 OPS is a brutal mark that the Phillies cannot rely on this season.
Adding a new third baseman in Paredes would be a smart move, as they'd add a new righty-hitting infield bat that has the potential to be the cleanup hitter.
Adolis Garcia is in such a role for now, but Paredes would be the kind of upgrade the Phillies need. Even though he's hitting .250 with a .694 OPS this season, which isn't great, it's still a step-up from Bohm, and it's even slightly above average at a 101 OPS+.
