Phillies top prospect Aidan Miller will have back surgery that will sideline him six to eight weeks, the Phillies announced June 3.
The shortstop has not played this year because of persistent back trouble. Doctors have diagnosed him with discogenic pain and facet inflammation in the lumbar spine. He will have what the Phillies termed "a minimally invasive procedure called a radiofrequency ablation of the facet joints" on June 6.
The Phillies said he'll begin rehabilitation a week later.
Miller was the Phillies’ No. 1 draft pick in 2023 and was expected to possibly push for big-league playing time this year. Miller slashed .264/.392/.433 last year at Double-A Reading before an end-of-the-season 8-game Lehigh Valley IronPigs Triple-A stint that also showed promise.
Miller has 25 homers, 104 RBI and 86 stolen bases in three pro seasons but has not seen action this year.
