Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Cristopher Sanchez had an injury scare during his outing against the New York Mets on April 22. After a week off, Sanchez returned to the rotation, pitching against the Washington Nationals.

After the game, Phillies manager Rob Thomson commented on Sanchez's outing against the Nationals. Thomson shared how he was encouraged by Sanchez's outing after a week off, while also looking at his performance realistically.

"Yeah, [Sanchez] looked a little rusty. Been a week since he's pitched. Command was off a little bit, but his stuff was really good. The change-up looked normal, the slider looked normal, fastball velocity was good. Yeah, so I', pleased with it."

In his first outing since the injury scare, Sanchez went five innings, allowing five hits, walking three, striking out six, and allowing two earned runs. His season ERA is now at 3.45, and Sanchez has a three and one record in 2025.

While not his best start of the year, Sanchez was able to bounce back from a rough outing cut short against the Mets, where he allowed two runs on four hits in just two innings.

Thomson's comments post-game are an indication that despite Sanchez being rusty, there aren't any major concerns over his status going forward.

With Ranger Suarez's return on the horizon, the Phillies starting rotation could be completely healthy for the first time all year. A five-deep rotation, with Taijuan Walker as the sixth man, would be arguably the best in baseball.

Sanchez returning to form would be a huge development for the Phillies. After the Mets outing where an injury cut his start short, the concern over Sanchez's ability was real.

But, after his solid outing against the Nationals on Wednesday night, the Phillies left-hander is back on track. Sanchez's next start is projected to be against the Tampa Bay Rays, where he'll make his third start of the year on the road.
