The 2025 Major League season has been full of ups and downs for the Philadelphia Phillies. But, after their three-game series against the New York Mets in Queens ended with a brutal sweep, Phillies' manager Rob Thomson shut down the notion that the Mets are creating a gap between themselves and the Phillies.

During Thomson's postgame press conference on Phillies Postgame Live on NBC Sports Philadelphia, Thomson was asked if Thomson thought there was a gap between the Phillies and the Mets. Thomson had a short and succinct response to that question.

"Oh, no. No." Thomson was asked a follow-up question of, 'Why not?' His five-word answer summarized his view of the Phillies. "Because we're a good team."

After the Mets swept the Phillies, the Phillies now sit at 13-12, five games behind New York in the standings. The Phillies have a negative four-run differential, despite having a winning record, and a significant reason for this has been their pitching staff.

Philadelphia have allowed 115 runs this season, 56 more than New York. A bigger concern might be the Phillies’ drastic home-road split: they're 9-4 at home but just 4-8 on the road. Meanwhile, the Mets have been nearly perfect at home, posting a 12-1 record.

If the Phillies have to travel to New York for a postseason series against the Mets, the outlook would not be positive. The Mets are also on a seven-game winning streak, while the Phillies have lost four in a row.

Despite the Phillies' recent struggles, Thomson still believes they are a "good team." Thomson isn't the only member of the Phillies to comment on the gap between the Phillies and Mets.

Bryce Harper responded to that question by saying, "They've played us really well and they've beat us. We've got to try and flip that." The Mets have won eight of the last 10 meetings between the two teams, and Harper knows it.

Harper- Can you see a gap now between the teams? They've played us really well and they've beat us. we've got to try to flip that.

Harper isn't the only Phillies star to comment on the gap forming between the Phillies and Mets. Zach Wheeler also responded to that question with an answer similar to Thomson's, "Because we're a good team."

Wheeler- what gives you the believe you guys can do it? because we're a good team.

The Phillies have the day off on Thursday, April 24th. It's a much-needed break for the Phillies following a rough stretch in April. Their next series is against the red-hot Chicago Cubs in Chicago, where the Phillies will look to bounce back from their rough beginning of the season.
