The Philadelphia Eagles will enter NFL training camp with big-time expectations and a lot of questions that need to be answered.
Howie Roseman and company went through a hectic offseason. Among the notable storylines were the trade sending star wide receiver A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots and losing pass rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Carolina Panthers.
While there were some notable departures, there were also some notable additions.
Among the biggest names the Eagles brought in were pass rusher Jonathan Greenard, who was acquired in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings, wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks, wideout Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, cornerback Jonathan Jones, cornerback Tariq Woolen, and quarterback Andy Dalton.
Dalton being acquired has given Philadelphia an interesting situation at the quarterback position. Nick Sirianni and the coaching staff will have to choose between four different signal callers who all will likely deserve roster spots.
Jalen Hurts will obviously be the Eagles' starting quarterback this season. However, there are three players fighting for two spots. Dalton will compete with Tanner McKee and Cole Payton for the backup and third-string jobs.
Keeping that in mind, Philadelphia insider Jeff Kerr has made his prediction about what will happen under center. He believes that Hurts, Dalton, and Payton will end up being the three quarterbacks that stick around. McKee, on the other hand, he sees being the odd man out, likely through a trade.
"Technically two spots are up for grabs here, pending on what the Eagles do with McKee. This will come down to whether the Eagles can trade McKee and get a good Day 3 pick for him and how Cole Payton looks this summer," Kerr wrote.
"Dalton is the player most likely of the three to have a job, but that's what training camp is for."
Moving on from McKee would be a tough decision to make. He has shown potential of being a quarterback who can play when called upon. Some even think he can be a starter at some point.
Throughout his tenure with the Eagles since being drafted with the No. 188 overall pick in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, McKee has completed 54 of his 88 pass attempts for 597 yards, five touchdowns, and just one interception.
It will be interesting to see if Kerr's prediction ends up being right. McKee has some trade value and could net Philadelphia extra draft capital, which would make it easier to move on.
Expect to hear a lot about the Eagles' backup quarterback battle in the coming weeks. For now, there are four players fighting for three spots and Kerr's prediction has been made.
