Phil Mickelson has confirmed that he will not be playing at the PGA Championship five years on from his record-breaking victory at Kiawah Island.
It has, once again, been a turbulent season for Mickelson. He has only played in one LIV Golf event so far.

Phil Mickelson rules himself out of playing in the PGA Championship
Mickelson has spent time away from the game due to a family matter. He did not play in The Masters for only the second time since 1995 in April.
His place in the PGA Championship was in real doubt after it was confirmed that he would also miss LIV Golf‘s next event this week.

He finished in the top five on two occasions on LIV last year. Meanwhile, he won his sixth major title back at the 2021 PGA Championship.
LIV certainly could do with having Mickelson back at a time when they are trying to put on the most united front in the face of incredible scrutiny.
But the priority has to be resolving whatever is happening behind the scenes.
