The 43-year-old Warner said he talked to Arians and G.M. Steve Keim “in passing” but that he doesn’t think they were ever seriously interested in bringing him back. But Warner himself was interested enough that he talked to his wife and kids about it, and they were supportive.

yeah. its on bidwill that we didnt hit up a QB that hasnt played in 5 years, is 42 and said himself he hasnt even thrown a football in a while. If he was serious, he could have called and said he was.

The fact that he was not pursued had nothing to do with the Bidwills. He can't play because of the way he retired. It was something to do with needing to be on the roster for a period of time in order to be eligible to become active. That was already answered in another post here on this board.

I don't recall hearing an offer being made.

I dig the Cardinals. My avatar is Roy Green, but I am pretty aware that the old man no longer runs this team since Roy has played and they are now a first class organization. Some people have OJ Anderson's avatar up and still think the ownership has not changed. The whole 'I did not think' stuff is a excuse because it goes both ways. If Keim is asking the question in the first place it is serious and what he saw was probably a Warner who was not sure and even up in the air if his family would say yes

But after all the talk about Kurt Warner and can he come back and hey, maybe he’s even thought about coming back, bottom line, he can’t.
Yes, even if the Cards thought it was a good idea and he thought it was a good idea, it’s a non-starter. A league spokesman confirmed Warner is on the Cardinals’ reserve/retired list. NFL rules state someone on the reserve/retired list cannot be reinstated in the last 30 days of a season. That means even when Warner first hinted about it during the game against the Rams, it was already too late.
(Forget about the fact he’s 43 and has been out of football for five years and isn’t physically or mentally prepped to be able to jump into an NFL lineup.)

I heard the interview this morning on the Dan Patrick show, where PFT's article originated from. They are making a story where there is none.

Patrick asked if the Cardinals ever reached out to him? Warner's reply, "I did see Mike Bidwill and Steve Kiem in St. Louis after Stanton went down; and they told me to start warming up the arm."

There is nothing new in this story. Both the Cardinals and Warner knew it was a ridiculous notion. As Warner has previously stated, the thought of coming back crossed his mind, because his ego was telling him he could still play. Then he added, but it is a bit arrogant to actually think I could get off the couch and still make an impact.

Realistically, it probably couldn’t have happened even if the Cardinals had wanted to do it. Under NFL rules, Warner would have had to pass through waivers before the Cardinals could bring him back, and some other NFC team almost certainly would have put in a waiver claim just to block Warner from the Cardinals. The Panthers, for instance, were ahead of the Cardinals in the waiver order and surely would have blocked Warner from returning. Wouldn’t you rather face Ryan Lindley in a playoff game?

So it was never really close to happening. But Warner was open to it. And it would have been fun to see him give it a shot.

Injuries tanked the season. Nothing or no one else, including Lindley, who by the way most of us have been too hard on. He did the best he could for what he is. Those who expected more were just kidding themselves. No 3rd string QB is supposed to win games, especially against the cream of the NFL crop. He was and is nothing more than a substitute teacher who was called in to go through the motions and meet the legal requirements in a classroom. He was just a young man who was given a chance to taste the dream any kid has to simply make an NFL team. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't ever think he would be starting an NFL regular season game.

Yep. He would still have to clear waivers. Either way, the NFL rules would have hindered this whole thing if Warner even wanted to. I think BA and SK knew about the rules. I just think Warner is still milking this tell the bitter end. Makes him feel important and wanted to still be in the news. I know I would.
