Pro Football Focus's 2026 win-total simulations have the 49ers projected for an average of 9.83 wins, which ranked 10th among all NFL teams and third in the NFC West.
PFF's 9.83-win number comes in slightly below where oddsmakers had the 49ers when win totals first opened on Feb. 18, when San Francisco was tied with nine other teams at 10.5 wins. Oddly enough, that total was before the 49ers made any of their notable offseason additions, including Since then, signing receiver Mike Evans in free agency, trading for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa and drafting receiver De'Zhaun Stribling in the second round.
The moves were built around a core that's mostly staying put. Brock Purdy, who was voted the No. 85 player in the NFL's "Top 100 Players of 2026" but was noticeably absent from an ESPN survey of top-10 quarterbacks, enters the season as the unquestioned face of the offense after taking over full command of Kyle Shanahan's system. Left tackle Trent Williams, entering his 16th season, agreed to a two-year extension in April after earning second-team All-Pro honors in 2025 — a deal that locks in the left side of Purdy's protection for at least two more years. And running back Christian McCaffrey, coming off a season in which he stayed healthy for all 17 games and posted 1,202 rushing yards and 102 catches for 924 receiving yards, gives Shanahan's offense its full complement of weapons again after years of durability questions.
Just as significant for San Francisco's outlook is health across the rest of the roster. The 49ers are getting back several other key players from injury, including tight end George Kittle, who's working through a torn Achilles suffered in the wild-card round, linebacker Fred Warner and edge rusher Nick Bosa. A healthier roster after a 2025 season riddled with injuries is a central reason the 49ers are drawing more optimism, even after finishing within two games of the division title a year ago despite the attrition.
