In a tough and physical environment, the Penn State Nittany Lions lacrosse team just came up a couple of goals short of pulling off a great ranked win.

On the road against an ACC opponent for the first time since 2014, the Nittany Lions simply were outmatched by a North Carolina squad that was simply more physical and talented, losing 10-8. Throughout the game, they were outshot 37-24 and, most importantly, lost faceoffs at a high clip, 14-8.

Some bright spots for the Nittany Lions came through a somewhat of a youth movement. Multiple goals were scored by freshman Jack Iannantuono and redshirt freshman Andrew Beard, with both getting two on the board. Beard ultimately led all point scorers for the Nittany Lions with three, as he added an assist to his name. John Jude Considine and Liam Matthews were the other goal scorers on the day.

Penn State will be back at home for the conference opener on Saturday, March 21 when they welcome Maryland to Panzer Stadium. Faceoff is scheduled for 3 pm ET on the Big Ten Network.
