KOKOMO — Led by Maddie Such, top-ranked (Class 4A) Lake Central beat No. 3 Penn, 5-0, in softball semistate semifinal action on Monday.
The game was halted because of the weather on Saturday in West Lafayette. At the time, Lake Central led 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning. The contest resumed on Monday in Kokomo.
Such tossed a five-hit shutout, struck out 12 and walked none on the mound. Offensively, she added two hits and two RBIs. Teammate Tegan Tripp hit a solo homer in the seventh inning.
Carson Petty, Charlie Swiger, Addison Bogunia, Harper Rumble and Addyson Zachary each singled for the Kingsmen, who finish at 28-4.
Lake Central, which stands at 30-2, went on to beat No. 4-ranked Fort Wayne Carroll, 5-2, for the semistate championship.
Penn finishes at 28-4.
