Penguins, Nick Robertson reach agreement on two-year contract

Nick Robertson and the Penguins have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year contract. Per Elliotte Friedman, it will carry a $3.25 million AAV.

Pittsburgh got Robertson from Toronto earlier for a fourth round pick. Robertson was drafted by Toronto in the second round back in 2019 when current Pens GM Kyle Dubas was with the Leafs. The soon-to-be 25 year old has scored 45 goals over the last three seasons, despite a limited role with the Maple Leafs. Robertson has scored on an impressive 12.5% of his shots over his career, showing an aptitude for finishing ability that should be slotting in somewhere in a significant place in the Pens’ lineup moving forward.

Now that one Robertson is signed up for the Pens, the focus might now shift to whatever may or may not happen with Nick’s brother, star forward Jason. The elder Robertson is one year away from unrestricted free agency and filed for arbitration himself with Dallas. So far unable to find mutual ground on a contract, J. Robertson’s name has been fodder with some smoke around the Penguins as a potential landing spot.
