Stars' Jason Robertson contract, trade rumors get 12-day update that has Penguins on high alert originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Jason Robertson's future is still hanging in the balance.
The star forward for the Dallas Stars is coming off a season in which he had 45 goals and 51 assists, but he still doesn't have a contract for the 2026-27 NHL season.
He's due for salary arbitration on July 25, which could determine what comes next.
Instead, though, team radio analyst Bruce Levine thinks that's the deadline for a decision.
A trade or a contract extension is likely to come before that, Levine wrote on X:
Jason Robertson has an arbitration date set for July 25.
My gut feeling is this will not happen.
One way or another, this saga ends before that date.

MORE:How a 3-team Dylan Larkin, Jason Robertson trade could work
The Stars can hardly fit a new Robertson contract under the salary cap, so it's still tough to see Dallas pulling off a situation where they keep him. If they do, it'll likely require moving someone else.
Or the Stars will still end up trading Robertson, which has been a rumor for a while now.
The team that seems to be leading these rumors is the Pittsburgh Penguins, but a number of teams could be intrigued by his talent.
The Detroit Red Wings, with Dylan Larkin having requested a trade and reportedly interested in Dallas, could also be a trade partner.
Maybe it still takes a little while for Robertson's next step to become clear, but it seems safe to view the next dozen days as pivotal in his future.
