dan bickley has a new morning show on 910 am...he is ripping some of the coaching staff hires...I think Clancy may have been on earlier..they mentioned his name a few times. Bickley is claiming we talked to alex gibbs but it was about $$...says graves and michael b. spent all of their coaching $$ on the head coach...

Gibbs seems headed to the Giants. I was really hoping we'd get him but I have to admit I know nothing about Wylie.
One point made on the Denver board, apparently the reason they chose Dennison over Gibbs is Shanahan was afraid to let him go, and then have Gibbs retire again in a year or two for health reasons. Would have been a great hire but let's hope Wylie knows his stuff.
dale hellestrate knows him from dallas (dale played for the cowboys and is a co-host on the radio show)..he is playing him up. Says he has coached every position on the defense and has worked under some of the best defensive coaches. says he will increase speed on defense and get guys flying to the ball..

Patterns his game after Jeff Fisher and Dave Campo (good defensive guys). X and Os plus teaching. Worked with Mike Zimmer. Worked with Jim Bates. Learned from some very good defensive coaches.
Hasn't started campaigning for the third pick to be used on a defensive player yet, still finding his way around the building (Cards HQ). Leaves for the Senior Bowl Monday. Comes back the Monday after next.
Dale Helestrae knows him from his coaching days. 36 years old! Wow! Young. Dale says he will bring enthusiasm, consistancy. Will stress sameness, might sound boring, but it will help. Has coached every position on the defense. Coached 3 young linebackers last year, and made them pretty good football players. Has learned from some very good defensive coaches. Dale is excited. Needs a little more talent. Wants speed.

Coach Green got Pendergast because he wants to run same type of defense as CP did in Dallas and then in Cleveland.
CP says the #1 item on his agenda is accountability. The other two important things are the players buying into the system and team speed.
CP says they will be running basically a 4 - 3 and will keep it very simple. He will be looking for consistancy and will start out simple so the players can use their abilities.
CP says the most influential guy in his training was Dave Campo, and that Mike Zimmer (DC in Dallas) and Jim Bates (DC in Miami) also influenced his style of coaching.

Funny - I never lumped Fisher and Campo into the same defensive philosophy.
Fisher came out of the Bear 46 and installed it when he first joined Tennessee.
I was never all that impressed by Campo's defense -but maybe it was because Dallas never had the talent. Always seemed to me that, yes, they had the small LB's who flew around, but were hurting at DE, thin at DT and also at CB (where their starters seemed to be always injured). Their safeties - Woodson and some other good guy who retired or was traded - were their strong point. So by necessity, the buzzsaw LB's carried the Felon defense.
From what Pendergast is reported to have said - It sounds to me that we will be seeing a simplified version of what Mac and Marmie ran last year (we had small LB's and an aggressive attack out of a base 4-3) - the hope having to be that we'll have better guys and that they will execute it far more effectively.

Jeff, what I got out of it is that Fisher was the one who got CP into coaching and he owed him a debt of gratitude for doing that. CP's style of defense is patterened after Campo, Zimmer and Bates. He also said the defense would get more sophisticated when the players were ready for it.

One of the guys on the Cardinals board stated that Jeremy Green (Dennis Green's son) is director of pro personnel for the Browns. I guess that's how D. Green knew about him.

Legit question. Let's amend my comment to "what Mac and Marmie said" would be an attacking defense.
Note - I think if you watch tape and compare this year with last year, you'll find that the Cardinals did attack more this past year. (But I'd also agree with what you imply by your comment - that they didn't attack enough).

Even when they did attack, it was woefully ineffective. They also routinely attacked at the wrong time. It seemed opponents were always converting third and long situations. Usually against our "fearsome" soft zone.

I agree, they got more agressive, but they were hardly a aggressive. I think you can get away with being agressive if the defense can make 1-3 big plays a game. Anybody remember many big defensive plays this year? When they came, we seemed to win.
