They say payback is hell, and it was for Baylor Sunday afternoon as Duke took the Bears to the woodshed, 69-46, and will play in the Sweet 16 next weekend.

You’ll recall that Duke and Baylor opened the season in Paris, with the Bears winning 58-52.

Obviously, things were very different this time.

The Blue Devils forced 23 turnovers, outrebounded Baylor 43-36/18-12, and held Baylor to 30% from the floor and 0-14 on three-point attempts. The Devils also had 13 steals.

Duke didn’t shoot well – 4-22 (18%) on three-point attempts, and 25-64 (39%), but this game was won on the defensive end.

That said, Duke shot just 63% from the line, and that’s not good.

Delaney Thomas led the way with 17 points and also had 7 rebounds. Toby Fournier had 15, while Ashlon Jackson kicked in 12. Arianna Roberson had a double-double off the bench with 10 points and 10 boards. Taina Mair wasn’t that far from a triple-double with 9 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 4 steals.

Duke gets another shot at payback in the Sweet 16 against #2 seed LSU, having lost to the Tigers, 93-77 back in December.

And if they get past that one, they may see #1 seed UCLA in the Elite Eight, and that’s yet another chance at payback, since the Bruins beat the Blue Devils, 89-59, in late November.
