The NBA elected to allow Detroit Pistons guard Cade Cunningham and Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic qualify for full season awards despite not having played enough games to qualify. This, in turn, caused star Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown was booted down the All-NBA voting ballot by a pair of spots.
And it was enough to rob the Georgia native in the eyes of some of what would have been his first All-NBA First Team nod in favor of at least one coherently case as to why Brown deserved the nod over others. Still, even if you don't agree with where the Cal alum fell in the voting, there is also a case for him to be where he is despite a Most Valuable Player-caliber season with Boston. But Hall of Fame Celtics forward Paul Pierce feels otherwise, as he shared in a recent episode of the "No Fouls Given" podcast.
"I know that’s saying a lot because Luka did lead the league in scoring, but he had more to work with, too," said Pierce of his take Brown should have been voted higher than Doncic.
"Think about it. He had LeBron (James) all year," he continued. "You've got (Austin) Reaves, a lot of most of the year. Jaylen Brown, he did the most with the least out of all these guys that’s on this and maybe Cade Cunningham."
"I mean, but Jaylen Brown didn’t have a second All-Star. A lot of these guys did. You know what I’m saying? So, I would have probably removed Luka for Jaylen."
