The 2024 college football season proved to be disappointing for several teams that had shown promise in previous years. Among them was the Florida State Seminoles, who had back-to-back seasons with at least 10 wins in 2022 and 2023.

In 2023, the Seminoles finished the regular season with a perfect 13-0 record and won the ACC championship game. However, after star quarterback Jordan Travis suffered a season-ending injury, they were left out of the College Football Playoff. This led to several players opting out of the Orange Bowl, which they ultimately lost to the Georgia Bulldogs, 63-3.

Entering the 2024 season, Florida State was ranked in the top 10 and had high expectations to prove the selection committee wrong while making a push for the newly expanded 12-team playoff. However, the season took a turn for the worse, resulting in a dismal 2-10 record, marking the Seminoles' worst performance since 1974.

During "The Paul Finebaum Show," the SEC Network analyst was asked about Florida State potentially defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide in this year's opening game. He was questioned about how such a loss would be viewed from Alabama's perspective, and he didn't hesitate to share his thoughts.

"Miserably," Finebaum said. "Because that's a game that most any year would be considered favored Alabama (or) a toss-up. But now Florida State's reputation has fallen, so there's the expectation that Alabama has to win the game."

Finebaum has been highly critical of Florida State recently. He acknowledged the impressive 13-1 season in 2023 but stated the Seminoles' 2-10 record in 2024 was one of the worst turnaround seasons he has ever witnessed.

During the season, he discussed the possibility of firing head coach Mike Norvell. Finebaum dismissed that idea, citing Norvell's large buyout as a significant factor, but labeled the season as one of the "biggest disasters ever."

The Seminoles are looking to bounce back, starting their new season with a major game against Alabama on Aug. 30.
