Former New England Patriots three-time Super Bowl champion James Develin was excited to see the team sign fullback Reggie Gilliam in free agency.

Gilliam is believed to be one of the best fullbacks in the league, and he should help boost the rushing attack behind what the Patriots hope to be a much-improved offensive line in 2026. Develin knows a thing or two about strong fullback play after the eight seasons he spent in New England.

He didn't always receive the recognition, but he was a key member of multiple Super Bowl teams, which has earned him a spot on the Patriots' All-Dynasty Team. So his words about a fellow fullback should carry a lot of weight in New England.

“Reggie can do it all," Develin said, via Patriots.com's Evan Lazar. "He's a tenacious run blocker, he can carry the ball, he can catch the ball out of the backfield, and then when he has the ball in his hands, he can do something with it. ...I’m just happy to see he made it to New England and I think New England made a great choice. He's a great fullback."

The backbone of every good offense is a reliable rushing attack, and the Patriots have two high-end running backs with Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson. If they can get the ground game going more consistently, it will help with the flow of the overall offense.

Gilliam could end up being a major addition who ultimately helps the offense get on track.
