New England Patriots fullback Reggie Gilliam is beginning to do his homework on how the organization has embraced the fullback position. While doing his research, he has come across one name in particular that Patriots fans will remember: James Develin.

Gilliam signed a three-year, $10.5 million contract with the Patriots during free agency. The move raised eyebrows at the time. Even still, it makes sense given the Patriots' history with the position. Gilliam is studying and working hard to embrace that history.

He is also embracing the Patriots' legend in the process of his homework, as transcribed by Patriots Wire’s Sophie Weller.

"I was actually watching film yesterday, and I see James Develin split out running a go route. And I was like, 'Hey, if he can do it, I can do it,'" Gilliam joked. "No disrespect to James, but I'm a little more agile than him. But it's nice to see that Josh values that position in a way more than just running your head into a wall."

Develin is certainly not a bad player to try to emulate. He played for the Patriots from 2012-2019 and won three Super Bowls with the organization. He also earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2017, becoming the first Patriots player at the fullback position to do so since 1978.

He certainly made his mark in Patriots history, and now Gilliam will look to do the same.
