The Patriots have acquired A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles, and he will seemingly be moving on from the No. 11 he has worn his entire NFL career.

The Patriots posted a picture of Brown in a Patriots uniform wearing No. 1, captioned "WR1."

Joshua Dobbs wore No. 11 last season, but he is no longer with the team. Brown had the number available to him, but it seems like he is changing to No. 1. It is the same number he wore in college at the University of Mississippi. When he got to the Tennessee Titans, No. 1 was retired for Warren Moon.

Moon gave Cam Ward his blessing to wear the number, thus unretiring it, but it was not an option for Brown. When Brown got to the Eagles, Jalen Hurts had the number. Hurts wore No. 2 as a rookie, but switched when No. 1 became available. Now, on the Patriots, Brown can wear the number again.

Brown could have stuck with No. 11, but perhaps his respect and admiration for Julian Edelman has something to do with it. Brown received a signed jersey from Edelman last offseason, and a video he posted on social media made it seem like he was getting traded to the Patriots. It was a prank, but his enthusiasm for receiving Edelman's jersey was real.

"It's finally official. The wait is over. The wait is over, man," Brown said in an Instagram video. "Oh, man. The GOAT Jules, man. Yes sir, man. That's what I'm talking about, man."

Edelman is one of the best players in franchise history, and Brown appeared on his podcast earlier this offseason. Players have worn No. 11 after Edelman's retirement, but perhaps Brown wants to show respect for one of his idols. Regardless of what number he wears, he figures to be a great target for Drake Maye.

The No. 1 was last worn by Ja'Lynn Polk. DeVante Parker, N'Keal Harry and Cam Newton have worn the number in recent years as well. Harry, of course, was the receiver the Patriots drafted in 2019 while Brown was still on the board.
