Kayshon Boutte and Christian Gonzalez have been the most high-profile absences during Patriots spring practices, but don't forget about rookie Gabe Jacas.

The 55th overall pick still hadn't made his practice debut as of Thursday. And, with Jacas still having not signed his rookie contract, many assume his absences are related to a contract dispute.

However, ESPN's Mike Reiss recently indicated that an injury likely is to blame.

“I’d be surprised if it was the contract," Reiss said during an appearance on Theo Diesenhaus' "Patriots Realtime" podcast. "I was told by someone that I feel like would have the information that he should be back soon. ... I don’t sense this is any major alarm.”

There currently isn't any reason to believe that Jacas and the Patriots won't work out a deal. And Reiss indicated Jacas will be back soon, so the injury doesn't sound serious.

Nevertheless, this storyline will be worth monitoring ahead of mandatory minicamp, which starts on June 15.
