The New England Patriots and quarterback Drake Maye are eager to prove themselves in the 2026 season. The quarterback spoke to the media on Wednesday, with OTAs officially getting underway.
The Patriots had a 14-3 record last season, a mark that was questioned throughout the year. They had the easiest regular season schedule last year, with opponents yielding a .429 strength of schedule in their own right. It was something that was heavily criticized by detractors as the Patriots rolled to the Super Bowl, before falling to the Seattle Seahawks by a 29-13 margin.
Now, they will have one of the hardest schedules in the NFL in 2026, and Maye is eager to prove that last year was not a fluke.
"One of the best things we're seeing about this team is we wanna get a get-back," said Maye. "Just kind of not feel like last year was just a one-off year, and we're trying to prove ourselves to ourselves, really, and to this football league that we're a tough team to beat."
There will be no shortage of challenges for the Patriots with the first four games being against the Seattle Seahawks, Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills. The team also has tough matchups against the Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears, Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos sprinkled throughout the 2026 schedule.
At the very least, the detractors will not get to use the strength of schedule argument for a second year in a row.
