The New England Patriots elevated running back D’Ernest Johnson and defensive end Leonard Taylor III to their active roster on Saturday for Super Bowl LX.
Defensive tackle Joshua Farmer, who had been dealing with a hamstring injury, has been ruled out for the game.
Farmer hasn't played in a game since the Patriots' Week 16 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. The rookie fourth-round draft pick showed real promise as a rotational piece along the defensive front, and that is something he'll be looking to build on when he returns next season.
Meanwhile, Johnson has served as a reliable depth option in a running back room that has been plagued with injuries this season. Not only has he worked in as the No. 3 running back option behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson, but he has also contributed on special teams.
He had 14 carries for 25 yards this season, while also returning five kicks for 128 yards.
Taylor appeared in three regular-season games for the Patriots, recording eight combined tackles and one quarterback hit. Perhaps his biggest contribution was during the AFC Championship Game, when he blocked a kick from Denver Broncos kicker Will Lutz to help punch New England's ticket to the Super Bowl.
