New England Patriots starting cornerback Carlton Davis will likely be sidelined through at least the end of next week. Coach Mike Vrabel confirmed the news before training camp practice on Friday.
That means Davis won't be available for the Patriots' scheduled scrimmage and preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts. Although there has been no confirmation of the injury, Davis appeared to injure his hamstring at practice in late July.
It's a tough loss for any length of time for the Patriots given Davis' role as the No. 2 cornerback on the team. He played a key role on defense last season, recording 69 tackles and 10 pass deflections for the team. The veteran defensive back served as a top-tier option across from star cornerback Christian Gonzalez.
This injury will certainly be worth watching.
Without Davis on the field, the team will have to continue to look at other options, including veteran Charles Woods and rookie Karon Prunty.
