New England Patriots cornerback Carlton Davis reacted to the news about Christian Gonzalez receiving an offer to be the highest-paid corner in the NFL.
When speaking with media members on Saturday, Patriots owner Robert Kraft revealed that the team made Gonzalez an offer to be the NFL's highest-paid corner, which would also make him the highest-paid player in franchise history.
Davis commented on the news after Day 1 of training camp practice. The veteran supported his teammate resetting the market after proving he's one of the best defensive backs in the NFL.
"He's deserving of all of it," Davis told reporters, via MassLive's Mark Daniels.
Gonzalez wants to remain a Patriot, and the team clearly wants to keep him around.
If they are offering him a record-breaking contract, one would think it is only a matter of time before a deal gets done. The hold-up might potentially be tied to Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon's deal. Witherspoon and Gonzalez share the same agent, and both deals have yet to get done, despite the teams trying to expedite the process.
