Patriots' New WR A.J. Brown Takes Shocking Nosedive In NFL Top-100 Player Rankings originally appeared on NESN. Add NESN as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
A.J. Brown has been brought to the Patriots to be Drake Maye's No. 1 wide receiver.
After a 2025 season and subsequent offseason filled with drama, though, he has quickly plummeted down the NFL's Top-100 Player Rankings.
A year ago, Brown ranked as the No. 29 player in the entire NFL in the list put out annually by the league's official media.
This year, though, Brown is in the bottom half.

Where does A.J. Brown rank in NFL 100?
The official rankings have Brown as the No. 80 best player in the NFL.
Brown's ranking was released at the same time as Travis Kelce at No. 79. Brown, though, is far from the same as Kelce.
Kelce is 36 years old and could've retired after the 2025 season. Brown remains in his prime.
Even in a nightmare season for Philly's passing game and the vibes surrounding Brown, he surpassed 1,000 yards.
"Brown's final season in Philadelphia featured more noise off the field than on it, but that doesn't mean he wasn't still terrific between the lines," NFL.com writes in its rankings list. "The new Patriots No. 1 WR was also the Eagles' top receiver in 2025, leading Philly in targets (121) and catches, while recording his third straight year with seven touchdown catches and his fourth in a row with more than 1,000 yards.
"This wasn't Brown's best campaign, hence his drop in the Top 100, but even through the struggles of '25, the physical wideout proved he's among the best in the game."
Brown, who just turned 29, should thrive with a purer passer throwing him the football in the form of Maye, compared to Jalen Hurts' limited range.
It's pretty safe to expect Brown to be moved back up this list in a year's time. In the meantime, it'll be up to Brown to prove some of the doubters wrong.
