The final mandatory minicamp practice ended abruptly for the New England Patriots on Thursday after edge rusher Bradyn Swinson accidentally collided with quarterback Drake Maye.
It seemed to be a situation where Patriots coach Mike Vrabel erred on the side of caution to call practice early, as the team was in the middle of competitive red zone drills. Both Maye and Swinson hit the ground after the play, and fortunately, they were both able to walk it off.
NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry reported that Swinson went over to Maye and said something before leaving the field. The quarterbacks wear red no-contact jerseys during the practice sessions. Perhaps Swinson was being apologetic after the play.
Things were much more competitive on Thursday, following more of a walkthrough practice on Wednesday.
It was the final practice of the offseason until the team returns in late July for training camp. At that point, they will be preparing for the 2026 regular season.
