The New England Patriots’ defense was powered by several impact players last season, but three stood out, and collectively, were among the best trios in the league.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Gilberto Manzano in his ranking of all 32 teams’ best defensive triplets, consisting of one pass rusher, inside linebacker and defensive back, Patriots stars Milton Williams, Robert Spillane and Christian Gonzalez were ranked as the sixth-best defensive trio in the league last season.
Williams set the tone for the Patriots’ defense in the front four last season. The Texas native finished with the third-highest pressure rate among all defensive tackles in 2025 at 12.4 percent and helped New England reach the Super Bowl at the end of the season.
Spillane was a difference-maker for the Patriots at the linebacker position. The Illinois native recorded two interceptions, five passes defended and a sack on the year for the Patriots.
As for Gonzalez, he was one of the best cover corners in the league yet again in 2025. He recorded 10 passes defensed on the season and followed that up with a storied playoff run that included seven passes defended and an interception that sealed the Patriots’ win over the Denver Broncos in the AFC Championship Game.
Together, Williams, Spillane and Gonzalez were vital toward the Patriots’ success in 2025 and will be looked at to do the same in 2026 for the team.
