How does the New England Patriots’ running back room compare to the other offensive backfields in the NFL heading into next season?
According to Sharp Football Analysis in their running back rankings for all 32 NFL teams for the 2026 season, the Patriots’ unit was ranked No. 10 overall.
“We were all over the map in our ranking of the Patriots' backfield, with votes ranging from fifth to 17th,” the Sharp football staff wrote. “The differing opinions might stem from the stark contrast of TreVeyon Henderson’s and Rhamondre Stevenson’s success in the regular season compared to their combined 3.3 yards per carry in the playoffs.”
Henderson went for 911 rushing yards in 2025, but he recorded only 76 yards across the Patriots’ four playoff games. On the other hand, Stevenson went for 603 rushing yards in the regular season but found a way to produce in the postseason, with 217 rushing yards to his name, including 70 yards in the Patriots’ divisional round win over the Houston Texans, and 71 yards in the team’s AFC championship game win over the Denver Broncos.
Though the playoffs were not quite as eventful as the regular season for either ball-carrier, Henderson and Stevenson were still highly effective throughout the year. They have the potential to go for 1,000 yards rushing next season with the necessary amount of carries, with Stevenson having reached the feat in 2022 and Henderson being on the precipice of reaching the marker last season.
