The Milwaukee Brewers lost their rookie shortstop Cooper Pratt to the 10-day injured list just before Sunday’s series finale against the Minnesota Twins. Pratt was initially removed from the lineup with a right hamstring injury and ruled day-to-day. Moments later though, the Brewers decided to transfer him to the injured list.
While Milwaukee still took the win and continued building upon the best record in the league, it is unclear how they will manage without Pratt. To make matters worse, backup shortstop Joey Ortiz is also dealing with a neck issue, which led to Milwaukee signing Ji-Hwan Bae to help shore up the left side of the infield.

However, Pat Murphy’s comments on the severity of Pratt’s injury were concerning. Murphy admitted there is “no telling” how long Pratt will be sidelined given he has never dealt with this type of injury before in his career, via Hunter Baumgardt of Fox Sports 920.
Hamstring strains are tricky, and Brewers fans know it better than most. During last year’s postseason run, center fielder Jackson Chourio experienced multiple setbacks with his own right hamstring and missed time on several separate occasions, including during the playoffs.
Milwaukee does not want that happening with Pratt, and there is a real possibility this injury sidelines him for the rest of the regular season given how little time remains.
Pratt has been exactly as advertised in his rookie season. The former top infield prospect has posted a .272 batting average, .352 on-base percentage, .720 OPS, two home runs and 17 RBIs while providing excellent defense up the middle.
The Brewers will not be able to replace that production overnight, even with the addition of Bae, and as October approaches, getting their young shortstop healthy has to be one of the organization’s top priorities even if it means ruling him out for the regular season.
