The Carolina Panthers are reportedly re-signing yet another one of their own free agents ahead of the 2026 campaign.

According to Joe Person of The Athletic, Carolina has agreed to terms on a one-year deal with tight end James Mitchell. The 26-year-old pass catcher entered the offseason as a restricted free agent.

Originally a fifth-round pick of the Detroit Lions from the 2022 NFL Draft, Mitchell came over to the Panthers last January on a reserve/future contract. He'd end up appearing in five games during the regular season, amassing 28 receiving yards on three catches.

Mitchell, when his new pact is made official, will join the following free agents the Panthers have or are expected to re-sign:

  • WR David Moore
  • DL LaBryan Ray
  • OLB Trevis Gipson
  • OLB Thomas Incoom
  • CB Akayleb Evans
  • CB Robert Rochell
  • S Isaiah Simmons
  • LS JJ Jansen
